Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese energy healing practice that promotes relaxation, stress reduction, and energetic balance. The word “Reiki” combines two Japanese terms: “Rei” meaning Universal or Divine Wisdom and “Ki” meaning Life Force Energy, also known as Chi or Prana. Reiki originated in Japan in the early 20th century and has since spread worldwide, offering healing on physical, emotional, and spiritual levels.

Reiki was founded by Dr. Mikao Usui (1865–1926), a Japanese Buddhist monk, spiritual seeker, and teacher. In 1922, Usui embarked on a 21-day meditation and fasting retreat on Mount Kurama near Kyoto, Japan, where he experienced a profound spiritual awakening. During this mystical experience, he received divine insight that allowed him to access and channel healing energy, birthing the Usui Reiki System of Natural Healing (Usui Shiki Ryoho). Following his enlightenment, Usui began teaching and sharing Reiki with others, establishing the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai (Usui Reiki Healing Society) in Tokyo to train students and pass on this sacred knowledge and so on and so forth...

As Reiki spread throughout the world, it evolved into various branches and styles, but the core principles established by Usui, Hayashi, and Takata remained central. In modern times, Reiki continues to thrive and adapt, with new generations of practitioners adding their own unique approaches and insights. I myself, Brianisha L.
